What To Pack In Your Vehicle’s Emergency Kit

As every driver knows, however, there are still unforeseen and unpreventable circumstances that arise when we’re behind the wheel — often at the most inopportune times! That’s why we strongly recommend that every driver make sure to pack the right items in an emergency kit. No matter where you live or what season it is, there are a number of essentials that can make a roadside breakdown an inconvenience instead of a dangerous emergency.

Whether you’re driving locally or taking off on a family road trip, here is a checklist of items to have in your emergency kit, courtesy of the American Automobile Association (AAA):

• Cellphone and charger
• First-aid kit
• Drinking water and snacks for your vehicle’s occupants, including pets
• Blanket
• Jumper cables
• Flashlight with extra batteries
• Emergency warning devices such as flares or reflectors
• Basic set of tools
• Duct tape
• Rags or paper towels
• Pre-moistened wipes
• Shovel
• Gloves
• Tarp
• Ice scraper or snow brush
• Traction aid such as sand, salt or cat litter

Some of these items will store easily in the glove compartment; others in the trunk or luggage area.
